BRISBANE MARITIME ATTRACTIONS
Brisbane has an amazing port, and being so close to the big blue sea, it also has some incredible maritime attractions for visitors! We share a few of the Brisbane maritime attraction here for you to enjoy once lockdown has eased across the world and all borders have opened up again for international travel.
Brisbane Maritime Museum
This impressive maritime museum is located on the Brisbane River at the South Bank Parklands. It is one of the largest maritime museums in Australia and showcases amazing historic vessels, some of the most popular being the lugger, Penguin, and the warship Diamantina. Volunteers staff the Queensland Maritime Museum, and they are so well informed and enthusiastic which really makes the tours memorable and exciting for the whole family. The museum can get busy, attracting over 35 000 people per year, so it’s best to book tickets before you go.
Portside Wharf
Located next to Brisbane Cruise Terminal, Portside Wharf is a must-visit when you are in the area. This urban village is an eclectic mix of waterfront homes and accommodation, boutique fashion, casual and fine dining spots and a wide range of health and beauty offerings. You can also enjoy scenic views of the port, ships and do some people-watching while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
Brisbane River Cruises
Sightseeing by water is a great way to experience Brisbane. There are a number of wonderful river cruises that will take you through the city via the twists and turns of Brisbane River. There are hop-on, hop-off terminals throughout, making it easy to stop off anywhere that takes your fancy, including at the Maritime Museum.
Day Trip to Moreton Island
Just a quick 75-minute ferry ride from downtown Brisbane is Moreton Island. The white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters make for a sensational day visit, and you can stay there for longer should you wish to. This is the world’s third largest sand island, and more than 98% of it is designated as a national park. Some of the islands popular activities include snorkeling and diving to see the many shallow-water reefs here, as well as whale watching, fishing and sea kayaking. While you are on the Island, don’t miss a visit to Cape Moreton Lighthouse, where you’ll experience some of the best views on the island.
