WHAT TO SPOT IN THE HARBOUR WHILE IN CAPE TOWN
We’ve put together some very interesting maritime attractions to enjoy at Cape Town Harbour. With so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the country, be sure to add a few of these top maritime spots to your list.
THE MARITIME CENTRE
Located at the V&A Waterfront, the Maritime Centre is a popular attraction when visiting the Cape Town Harbour. This centre features some incredible floating exhibits, such as the SAS Somerset, which is one of the world’s last surviving boom defence ships, and the steam tug, Alwyn Vincent. Visitors will also experience the development of the harbour and gain insight into its history.
CAPE TOWN HARBOUR CRUISE
A Cape Town Harbour Cruise will show you the harbour from a different perspective, on the water. While traveling around the Victoria and Alfred basins, you’ll meet some of the resident seals and see some of the international ships that visit the harbour. One of the highlights of the tour is getting up close and personal with the SAS Somerset, and the Bascule Bridge, which is the southern hemisphere’s largest synchro-lift and only drawbridge.

V&A WATERFRONT

The V&A Waterfront is located at harbour, and this spot has to be one of the most popular destinations for both tourists and locals. With a range of shops, restaurants and exciting maritime activities and sights to enjoy, you can’t visit the harbour in Cape Town, or even just Cape Town, without paying the Waterfront a visit. You might notice a large, usually bright red, Clocktower, which was once the Port Captain’s office. There is a swing bridge that opens and closes, allowing boats to go into and come out of the Victoria and Alfred Basin.
TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM
Located only a stone’s throw away from the V&A Waterfront in the must-visit Two Oceans Aquarium. Visitors will get to experience some of the incredible marine life of both the Indian and Atlantic oceans, from penguins and clownfish to sharks and some other predators of the deep! The kelp forest exhibit is also popular amongst visitors. The Two Oceans Aquarium also has several foundations and programmes where they are working towards ocean conservation.

With so many unique maritime experiences to be enjoyed at here, we would definitely suggest adding Cape Town Harbour to your maritime travel bucket list!
