The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan in China stands as the world’s largest bulk-cargo port by total tonnage, handling over 1.2 billion metric tons annually. Formed by merging Ningbo and Zhoushan ports in 2015, this deep-water mega-port supports an extensive range of cargo—including bulk materials like iron ore, crude oil, coal, as well as containerized freight.

World’s Largest Bulk Export Port: Port Hedland holds the distinction of being the largest bulk export port globally, particularly for iron ore.
Record Tonnage: In 2021/22, the port handled approximately 561 million tonnes of cargo.
Historic Highs: As of 2015/16, a total throughput of 633.5 million tonnes, with 460.4 million tonnes specifically through Port Hedland.
Recent Figures:
February 2025: 37.5 Mt, with 37.3 Mt of iron ore exports.
January 2025: 46.5 Mt, including 45.9 Mt in iron ore.
October 2024: 46.2 Mt, with 45.6 Mt iron ore.
